SFU thank Wrexham for their support.

Saturday saw both Mansfield Town and Wrexham fans unite in a protest against both their respective football ground owners for Fans United Day. The purpose beside getting the message to these “owners”, naturally in Stags case Keith Haslam, was to send the message that football is for fans…not amongst other people developers and the like who appear more interested in Football Grounds and their assets… than fans, players and teams!!

Both teams fans united together with placards, each others protest shirts, banners and indulged in a great amount of singing before a group marched onto the pitch ahead of both teams holding joint banners to the applause of the crowd.

An SFU spokesman commented “It really was great to see something like this happen at Field Mill, with all age groups involved The support we had from Wrexham’s supporters groups being just fantastic! It was a great way of sending a message not just to Haslam but to all owners of a similar ilk. Football always was for the fans, and always should be. The game and the fans do not need or want owners like this in it. Football should be about families, kids, and everyone having a great time at the local match. The SFU, Mansfield Town and everyone associated want exactly that at Field Mill, not just for regular Stags fans, but for new fans and the community in general”
“Sales of protest merchandise were great, and it was fantastic to get more new Stags Fans United members who signed up. We also received many more donations for the “Free Field Mill” fund, including £1000 from the Pleasley Stags. Every penny including all new members fees will be used to fight our cases against Keith Halsam in court.

We wish our friends in Wrexham the very best of luck in their fight for their ground, and will continue to do so.
“A minority of Wrexham fans did arrive late at the ground and cause some trouble, but the were a tiny minority of what was a great away crowd. Wrexham’s supporters organisations have already apologised for the few idiots that followed them to Field Mill, and hopefully they can be identified and dealt with by the appropriate authorities Wrexham like ourselves like ourselves do not support or tolerate violence at or associated with football games in any form.”
